A Queen with a Purpose

Your Children Will Learn: God helped Queen Esther. Queen Esther was brave.

Memory verse for unit 12- You were made by God. He made you to do good things. Ephesians 2:10

Just for Parents -
“Jesus said you won’t find your life until you lose it; you won’t have something until you are willing to give it away; you won’t be first until you are last. It all works backwards to the natural order, but then again this isn’t natural selection. This is learning to live according to God’s great purposes for us and finding out that real joy and fulfillment in life is all about living for a God who is higher and better than anything this world has to offer.” (Excerpted from The Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren) Queen Esther was an amazing woman who lived according to God’s great purpose for her life. Even though she was afraid, her love for her people drove her to overcome her fear and do what God wanted her to do. The book of Esther tells us that she said, “I couldn’t stand by and let this happen.” God helped Queen Esther and filled her with courage. Are you facing a challenge that has you filled with fear? Ask God to help you and fill you with courage.

Monday - Read & Do

Read Esther 7:1-6; 9b-10; 8:1-8. Ask your child: “How did God help Queen Esther? How does
God help you?”

Tuesday - Out & About

Keep an eye out for a time this week when your child may need encouragement from you to be brave. Talk about how Queen Esther was brave. Ask: “Who helped Queen Esther be brave?” Let your child know that God can help him or her be brave.

Wednesday - Art

Talk about how King Xerxes had a ring with a royal seal. The seal was used to stamp official letters and orders from the king. Use rubber stamps and ink pads and pretend to be a king or queen stamping official letters. Say to your children, “Let’s write a letter together. We can stamp it to make it officially from you!”

Thursday - Snack

Have a royal snack of various fruits, such as apples, raisins, figs and dates. Some of these same fruits may have been served at the dinner Queen Esther made for King Xerxes and Haman. Talk about the Bible story while you eat.

Friday - Pray & Praise
Name some things you and your family have to do this week. Ask God to help you! Praise Him for helping you. God can help you do anything! Just like God helped Queen Esther, God can help you!
