Gideon Remembered God

Your Children Will Learn: Gideon worshiped God. You can worship God, too.

Memory verse for unit 11- God you give strength to my heart. You are everything I will ever need. Psalm 73:26b

Just for Parents -
“I remember the time I knew what happiness was. Let the memory live again.” So goes the song “Memory” from the musical Cats. The song tugs at the heart of anyone who has ever longed to relive their happy times. But when we stop to remember God’s goodness in our lives, we are filled with a feeling of true happiness. Remembering God’s goodness brings feelings of comfort and joy to know we are not alone. Reflecting on how we experienced God’s power and love during our times of trial or pain brings us back to God’s feet to worship Him again. And it was the same for Gideon. He built a statue to honor God to remember the great victory God had given him. Read Psalm 107 and remember God’s goodness in your own life. It ends with this verse, “Let those who are wise pay attention to these things. Let them think about the Lord’s great love.”

Monday - Read & Do

Read Judges 8:22-28, 32-35. Ask your child: “Did Gideon worship a fake god? Who did Gideon worship? Who do you worship?”

Tuesday - Rest

Take a moment out of this day to sit and rest. Worship God together by remembering all the wonderful things He has done for your family. How He has answered a prayer, encouraged your  family or acted on your behalf. When we remember what God has done for us, we will have faith and hope for the future. That is where we find true rest.

Wednesday - Art

Cut long strips of paper and have your child draw some things they are thankful for such as their house, friends and family. Decorate a paper towel tube with markers and crayons. Tape the paper strips along with festive ribbons to the end of the paper towel tube to make a worship streamer. Your child can wave the worship streamer as you sing worship songs to God. Gideon worshiped God and you can worship God, too.

Thursday - Snack

Have a “tea” party in honor of God today. Celebrate all that He has done in your lives. Even boys will have fun drinking juice out of special cups and eating off special plates. Make God the guest of  honor at your “tea” party. Thank Him for all the wonderful things He has done for your family.

Friday - Pray & Praise
Sing some of your favorite worship songs to God! Let each family member have a turn sharing one thing that God has done for your family. Gideon worshipped God. You can worship God through a time of remembering all of the things He has done. Sing, dance and worship the real, true God together!
