A Trip to the Big City

Your Children Will Learn: Jesus went on a trip. Jesus went to the worship house.

Just for Parents -
“Jesus became wiser and stronger. He also became more and more pleasing to God and to people.” (Luke 2:52) At 12 years of age, Jesus was on the verge of what the Jewish culture considered adulthood. He would soon celebrate his Bar Mitzvah, or official entrance into the adult community. Time flies by so fast! Children grow up right before our eyes, and the same was true of Jesus. While our early childhood-ers aren’t quite on the verge of adulthood, they are on their way. Young children need someone who will offer guidance and help lay a foundation of solid Biblical principles in their lives. They need to be taught how to approach life with the wisdom and discernment the Holy Spirit wants to give them. Rather than just telling children the answers, we can help stimulate godly decision-making ability. Prayerfully consider ways you can begin to help your children become “wiser and stronger and more pleasing to God and to people.”

Monday - Read & Do

Read Luke 2:41-52. Ask your child, “Where did Jesus go? Who went with Him? What is a worship house? What was Jesus doing in the worship house?”

Tuesday - Art

Make a people parade! Find lots of people pictures and cut them out of magazines and newspapers. Tape several pages of paper together. Draw a road that winds along the paper. Glue the people onto the road. Talk about the trip that Jesus and His family took. Talk about a trip that you and your family have taken.

Wednesday - Pray & Praise

In our Bible story, Jesus and His family celebrated a holiday called Passover. Passover was a time to remember what God had done for them. This week to remember the good things God has done for you and your family. Praise Him out loud as you remember these things.

Thursday - Out & About

Take a trip to the zoo. Find the camels and the donkeys. Remind your children that when Jesus’ family took their trip, they rode on donkeys and camels because they didn’t have cars.

Friday - Art
Build the worship house where Mary and Joseph found Jesus talking with the teachers. Use wooden blocks, or empty boxes taped shut. While you are building together, talk about your church and what you like about it.
