Only One Came Back

Your Children Will Learn: Jesus healed ten men. One man said "thank you."

Memory verse for unit 6- Jesus said, "I didn't come from heaven to do what I want. I came to do what God wants." John 6:38

Just for Parents -
This week, consider your role as a parent or guardian to your children. God calls each of us to be mentors, living out our lives as examples of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Do you realize that as parents, you have the privilege to shape the lives of your children and you get to do it  everyday? God has entrusted your children to your love, nurturing and teaching. Only you can bring to the table your own unique God-given talents and gifts. Only you can teach your children the things that God has put in your heart to share. And, only you can teach your children to have a thankful heart. Pray this week about the things that God wants you to share with your children. Ask God how He would like to use you in passing on faith and a thankful heart to the little children in your family.

Monday - Read & Do

Read Luke 17:11-19. Ask your child: “How did Jesus help the ten men? How does Jesus help you? Do you say, “‘Thank You’” to Jesus when He helps you?”

Tuesday - Art

Create the ten men that Jesus healed. Fold an 8 1/2”x 11” piece of paper in half. Draw an outline of a man so the hand and foot are on the fold line. Cut out the man shape but do not cut on the fold. Open it up and you will have two men! Make a total of five sets. Your child can color each one of them. Connect them together with tape. Draw a red heart on one man. This one man will represent the only one who came back to say “thank you” to Jesus.

Wednesday - Pray & Praise

Make a list of the things that your family is thankful for on a giant piece of poster board or notebook paper. Your list will quickly fill the paper! You can use this list to teach your child how to be thankful to God. Say together, “Thank You God for ...” as you read each item on the list.

Thursday - Out & About

Jesus healed ten sick men who no one wanted to be around. Is there someone in your life who is difficult to be around? Take your child and visit them. Spend time with them talking and listening. Include your child in the conversation. Ask the person if they would like you to pray for them.

Friday - Play!
Your child will learn what the ten men might have felt like with this fun activity. Sprinkle some baby powder on your arms. Pretend to be like the men that needed Jesus to make their skin all better. Then wipe off all the baby powder and say, “Thank You, Jesus!”
