Parents of Preschoolers - Fire on the Mountain!

Becca Andersen
Your Children Will Learn: Elijah prayed. God answered him. Memory verse for unit 1 - Put God first in your life. Then he will make sure you have everything you need. Matthew 6:33 Just for Parents - Today’s story is high drama, much like an old-fashioned western showdown, with all the fireworks and intensity! As you study the text, let it speak to you personally. Don’t we all have fake gods and things that are way too important in our lives, too? Maybe not to the extent that we see depicted in the text. In fact, it is probably so ...

Parents of Preschoolers - A Visit With a Widow

Becca Andersen
Your Children Will Learn: Elijah obeyed. Elijah prayed. Memory verse for unit 1 - Put God first in your life. Then he will make sure you have everything you need. Matthew 6:33 Just for Parents - Elijah was a great man of God who was full of faith. He met a woman who had lost her faith and hope. The widow we meet in today’s Bible story had no power, no money and almost no food. She was utterly without hope in the world and was waiting to die. Yet God brought them together in a tender way. The poor mother thought she had nothing to ...

Student Ministries - Youth & the Kingdom

Jeanette Ross
I’m reading a book called ‘The 4/14 Window’ by Luis Bush, and it’s affirming much of what I believe about Jesus, youth, and the kingdom. Bush says a great opportunity exists to develop and mobilize a new generation of Christ followers, especially those between the ages of 4 to 14. This is what he calls the 4/14 window. Bush introduced the concept of the 10/40 window, an area between 10 degrees and 40 degrees latitude where the gospel is least present. Now he’s urging believers to redirect our energies at the youth of the nations. Based on ...

Help Your Teenagers Stay Connected to God

Alexis Dasari
A close relationship with God is both the core of our Christian life and our highest end as human beings. As we learn about God and develop intimacy with him, our faith morphs from a “practice” to a lifestyle. Worship and Bible study not only help us experience God, they strengthen us for life’s daily challenges. When Group Magazine recently surveyed 20,000 Christian teenagers about their priorities, the top vote-getter was “praying and developing a relationship with God.” But many youth ministers were surprised by those survey results. ...

Unmerited Small Group Study Guide

David Andersen
1. Have you ever met someone who was confident in their own righteousness? What was it like to be around them? 2. We sometimes feel compelled to try and do things to earn approval from God. Talk about a time when you felt like you were doing something primarily to gain God’s approval. What was the experience like? 3. Have you ever known someone who was a complete reprobate, but then humbled themselves and became a follower of Jesus? Share this person’s story (if appropriate) and explain what it was like to watch the ...

Parents of Preschoolers - Shipwrecked!

Becca Andersen
Your Children Will Learn: Paul was thankful. Paul prayed. Memory verse for unit 12 - God will watch over you when you go out. He will watch over you when you come in. He will watch over you now and forever more. Psalm 121:7-8 Just for Parents - We’ve all suffered shipwrecks in our own lives: an unexpected illness, disappointments, divorce, problems with our kids, the death of a loved one. It is not the shipwreck that is important, but what we do in the midst of it. Do we view our shipwrecked moments as problems or ...

Don't Lose Heart Small Group Study Guide

David Andersen
1. It’s been 2000 years since Jesus ascended into heaven. He promised he’d come back. He told us not to lose heart while we wait. Have you ever been tempted to lose heart or give up? What was it like? 2. David said that having faith really isn’t all that special. Do you agree? What kinds of things do you put your faith in? Is this faith the same kind of faith you have with God? Why or why not? 3. David said the best English word to describe faith is “trust”. What does it mean to trust a friend or a family member? ...
